BIOTECHWORKS-H2 is pleased to announce that, on 30 June 2026, its feasibility study project for waste-derived hydrogen production in Malaysia was selected for the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry’s FY2025 Supplementary Global South Future-Oriented Co-Creation Project Subsidy Program for Small-Scale Demonstration and Feasibility Study Projects.
Under this project, BIOTECHWORKS-H2 will assess the feasibility of producing hydrogen from municipal solid waste in Penang, Malaysia, from technical, economic and regulatory perspectives.
BIOTECHWORKS-H2 aims to establish an integrated system that converts waste into a uniform feedstock through its proprietary pre-treatment technology and produces high-purity hydrogen through gasification.
The company will also work with its local partner, HUALANG ENERGY SDN BHD, to develop a framework for future demonstration projects and commercialisation.
Building on this project, BIOTECHWORKS-H2 plans to pursue commercialisation in Malaysia and expand into the wider ASEAN region, with construction of a commercial plant scheduled to begin in 2027 and full-scale operations planned for 2028.
