Generating Hydrogen and Power from Waste — BIOTECHWORKS-H2 and Nanto City to Develop Japan’s First Demonstration Plant

BIOTECHWORKS-H2 has entered into a collaboration with Nanto City, Toyama Prefecture, to launch the development of a demonstration plant that converts waste materials such as tree branches into hydrogen and electricity.

The signing ceremony was held on July 22 at Nanto City Hall.

Mayor Yasushi Tanaka of Nanto City remarked:

“It feels like a dream to be able to turn waste into energy. I hope this initiative will expand throughout Japan.”

Our CEO, Akihide Nishikawa, commented:

“The technology envisioned in films forty years ago still hasn’t been realized. I believe it’s my mission to make that dream come true. Starting from Nanto, we aim to expand across Japan and change the world — to create an era where waste becomes energy.”
