May 15, 2026 – Press Release
BIOTECHWORKS-H2 Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, Japan; CEO: Akihide Nishikawa) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on March 30, 2026, with Urban Research and Planning Pty., Ltd. (URaP) of Australia for a strategic partnership regarding the commercial development of the Waste-to-Hydrogen “ZERO WASTE” project in Australia.
Under this partnership, Queensland (QLD) has been selected as the first project site, where both companies will jointly launch a full-scale Waste-to-Hydrogen project with a processing capacity of 400 tons per day. New South Wales (NSW) is also being considered as a future expansion area.
Through this project, general waste that is difficult to sort or recycle will be pelletized and homogenized using BIOTECHWORKS-H2’s proprietary pre-treatment technology, then converted into renewable energy such as electricity, gas, and hydrogen through gasification technology. In addition, the company’s digital traceability system “REBORN” will visualize the entire process from waste collection to final energy utilization, aiming to realize a highly transparent circular economy.
Currently, the companies are advancing site selection, business structuring, and investment framework planning while also considering potential support from ARENA (Australian Renewable Energy Agency).
Australia is recognized as one of the leading countries promoting a national hydrogen strategy, and both Queensland and New South Wales position clean hydrogen industries and waste management solutions as key policy priorities. Following Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Nigeria, BIOTECHWORKS-H2 is entering the Australian market as its fifth major international market and will accelerate the global implementation of its Waste-to-Hydrogen model.
